And the winner of the election is… The Sun Belt.
Americans are increasingly voting to fly south — and not just for the winter, according to new data from the Census Bureau.
What has become a perennial trend is here to stay, experts warn.
Famously high-tax states like New York are hemorrhaging population once again in 2023 — with Texas, Florida and North Carolina the top three states feeling the slack, absorbing hundreds of thousands of domestic immigrants, according to the Daily Mail. which analyzed the report.
“I don’t see a difference: There won’t be massive reversals in high-tax states,” Ana Bozovic of Miami Analytics — calling Florida one of the country’s “epicenters of the 21st century” — told the paper.
“Entrepreneurship and creativity flow towards the path of least resistance,” Bozovic opined.
It’s all about economics and politics, too, said Mark Perry of the American Enterprise Institute.
Perry cited “higher tax burdens and unfriendly business climates” as a reason why blue states like New York are losing people.
He called red states like Florida “more economically vibrant, dynamic and business-friendly.”
The Post previously reported that power has been consolidating in South Florida in recent years, as wealthy and influential people — Jeff Bezos, Michael Dell and Ken Griffin among them — abandon traditional centers of power and flock to Miami and the surrounding area.
New York lost 179,000 more people than it moved last year, the numbers showed — with the largest number of leavers choosing the Sunshine State as their destination.
In 2022, the bureau reported an even greater net population loss of about 245,000.
California lost a quarter of a million more people – more than half the population of the city of Sacramento. More than 50,000 of those who left were connected to the Lone Star State — among them billionaire Elon Musk, who recently moved to Texas along with X and Space X, two of his companies.
Musk has reportedly been spotted voting in the 2024 election in Cameron County, Texas, along the Mexican border.
Both the Empire and the Golden States are known for their high taxes. Florida and Texas have no state income tax.
Other big losers included Illinois, Hawaii, New Jersey and Oregon, the survey showed.
